What are clear aligners & braces?
Clear aligners are a series of thin, transparent trays made for your teeth. Each set moves your teeth a small step, and you switch to the next set every one to two weeks. They are removable for eating and brushing.
Braces use small brackets and a wire to move teeth, and remain the best choice for some complex cases. We will explain which option suits your teeth, lifestyle and budget.
Who needs it?
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that stick out, or an uneven bite
- Teeth that have shifted after earlier braces

About this video
How the procedure works
Step 1
Records
We take photos, X-rays and a scan or measurement of your teeth and discuss your goals.
Step 2
Treatment plan
You see how your teeth are planned to move and how long treatment is expected to take.
Step 3
Fitting
Your first aligners are fitted, or braces are placed. We show you how to wear and clean them.
Step 4
Regular reviews
You visit every few weeks so we can check progress and give you the next aligners or adjust the wire.
Step 5
Retainers
When treatment ends, retainers hold your teeth in their new positions.
Recovery and aftercare
Expect a feeling of pressure for a day or two with each new aligner or adjustment; this means the teeth are moving. Aligners need to be worn about 20 to 22 hours a day to work.
Frequently asked questions
Are clear aligners visible?
They are very hard to notice in normal conversation. Most people will not know you are wearing them.
How long does teeth straightening take?
Simple cases can take six to twelve months; more complex ones may take longer. We give you an estimate after your records are taken.
Am I too old for braces or aligners?
No. Adults of any age can straighten their teeth as long as their gums and bone are healthy.
Can I eat normally with aligners?
Yes. You take the aligners out to eat and drink anything other than water, then brush and put them back.
