What is laser dentistry?

A dental laser is a focused beam of light that can gently remove or reshape soft tissue such as gums. Because it seals small blood vessels as it works, there is usually very little bleeding and often no need for stitches.

At Balaji Dental Clinic we use laser treatment for soft-tissue procedures: reshaping uneven gums, cleaning deep gum pockets, and treating ulcers or small growths. Many of these procedures need little or no injection.

Who needs it?

  • A 'gummy' smile or uneven gum line you would like to improve
  • Deep gum pockets from gum disease that need thorough cleaning
  • Painful mouth ulcers or small soft-tissue growths
  • Gum tissue that has grown over a tooth or around braces

How the procedure works

  1. Step 1

    Assessment

We examine your gums, measure any pockets and explain what the laser can and cannot do in your case.

  2. Step 2

    Comfort first

Depending on the procedure, we apply a numbing gel or a small amount of local anaesthetic.

  3. Step 3

    Laser treatment

The laser reshapes or cleans the tissue. You may hear a soft clicking sound and feel mild warmth.

  4. Step 4

    Aftercare guidance

We explain how to keep the area clean and book a short review visit.

Recovery and aftercare

Most patients return to normal activities the same day. The area may be slightly tender for a day or two. Keep it clean with gentle brushing and the rinse we recommend.

Frequently asked questions

Is laser dental treatment safe?

Yes. Dental lasers are widely used and safe when operated by a trained dentist. You and the dentist wear protective glasses during treatment.

Does laser treatment need injections?

Many soft-tissue laser procedures can be done with only numbing gel. Some need a small amount of local anaesthetic; we will tell you beforehand.

How fast do gums heal after laser treatment?

Healing is usually quicker than with conventional surgery, often within a few days for minor procedures.

Can a laser fix a gummy smile?

In many cases, yes. Laser gum contouring can remove excess gum to show more of the tooth. We check first whether gums alone are the cause.
